Stanworth Beckler was Professor Emeritus, University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, Stockton, California. He was Chair of the Theory/ Composition Department for many years and produced a huge body of music, some of it published, much not-yet-published. This catalog presents an opportunity for musicians to examine descriptions of compositions —and commentary about the music— prior to ordering from music publishers; and for the public to examine the chronological listing, complete with annotations by the composer, his students, performers of his music, and friends and other admirers.
Here is a significant comment by the composer that illustrates his attitude about composing music:
I have spent many years writing things which interested me or appealed to me. Interest and appeal are not at all the same. "Interest" may involve technical matters, but "appeal" most likely does not. I have done a great many "jobs"
—arrangements, transpositions. scorings— but in every case the "job" becomes part of me. It is not merely a job. I believe I am some sort of music machine. Everything I do seems to turn into music.
