One of the authors of BalonaBooks, Jonathan Pearce is based at Stockton, California, and sometimes at South Lake Tahoe. Jonathan has been a teacher--for primary grade kiddies through university graduate school grownups--for much of his adult life. He holds degrees from the University of the Pacific and has much advanced study and experience teaching in music, English, languages, counseling psychology, and education. In addition to having written many books, Jonathan has also been a professional musician, performing on stage and radio. He is a California credentialed Language Development Specialist, now plays the cello for fun, and does Asian martial arts to try to keep himself in shape. Kids often describe his appearances via phone and/or e-mail as "fun" and "helpful," never a bore.

Jonathan writes stories for BalonaBooks part-time, and part-time advises new teachers and teacher interns on their classroom practice for the California State University, Stanislaus. He is experienced in participating in conferences with elementary and secondary classes via telephone (Skype) or e-mail, on appointment. With students and teachers he can discuss his (and their) experiences with various writing processes, the place and importance of vocabulary, and how to (try to) get writing published. As he is also publisher of BalonaBooks, Jonathan can discuss with kids how publishing works (and doesn't work!).
